We took a walk around Helsinki city centre on Sunday, and found that everything was closed! Not a place I would recommend for a weekend break, unless you like museums :-) Also, it was around -10ÂșC so by the time we got back to the hotel our free were frozen!
All of the shops were closed, and it took a couple of phone calls to friends who live in Helsinki to find a nice cafe that would be open and didn't have golden arches over the door.
We ended up in a small Greek deli/cafe which served great ciabattas and sold loads of Greek delicacies. It's called Gran Delicato on the corner of Albertinkatu and Kalevankatu - If you find yourself hungry in Helsinki on a sunday afternoon, I'd recommend it!!!
We stayed in the Klaus K (www.klauskhotel.com) for the weekend, a great hotel with 3 restaurants and a bar/club - I'd go to these even if I wasn't staying in the hotel.
