Sunday in Helsinki

We took a walk around Helsinki city centre on Sunday, and found that everything was closed! Not a place I would recommend for a weekend break, unless you like museums :-) Also, it was around -10ºC so by the time we got back to the hotel our free were frozen!

All of the shops were closed, and it took a couple of phone calls to friends who live in Helsinki to find a nice cafe that would be open and didn't have golden arches over the door.

We ended up in a small Greek deli/cafe which served great ciabattas and sold loads of Greek delicacies. It's called Gran Delicato on the corner of Albertinkatu and Kalevankatu - If you find yourself hungry in Helsinki on a sunday afternoon, I'd recommend it!!!
We stayed in the Klaus K (www.klauskhotel.com) for the weekend, a great hotel with 3 restaurants and a bar/club - I'd go to these even if I wasn't staying in the hotel.

Ady's Snowboarding Techniques

Here are a couple of videos showing the skill and expertise of Ady's snowboarding and Sam's skiing. These were filmed in Himos...

Firstly, some moves and some advanced falling techniques...

Second, a clip from one of the pistes, filmed by Ady on his snowboard, featuring Sam on her skis!

Skiing at Himos, Finland

We spent the day on Saturday skiing with the Finns in Himos. This is the most popular ski area in the centre of finland, and is a fun day out. Most people seem to go for the day to Himos, but there are some people who choose to take their caravans and go camping... in temparatures of as low as -20 degrees C!!!

Look closely at this picture above and you can see all the caravans, just behind the queues of people for the lifts.

Chillin' in Helsinki

This week I'm in Finland working. It's a bit of shock to the system after spending Christmas in South Africa! It's -11ºC here at the moment, which makes it cold enough for me to dig out the ski jacket!

It's been very warm in Finland over the past few weeks, but the weather has turned and there's a covering of snow on the ground too.

I might even get to go Snowboarding at the weekend :-)

French mustard anyone?

A training course in bath and a night out with colleagues. One of them seemed to enjoy the french mustard sachets... Interesting!
