Farewell Party Time and Madrid

After 3 days of farewells and partying, we finally reached the airport, bags packed and ready to go!

here. It was great to see everyone and we both did very well out of the free drinks!!!

First stop, Madrid!

An early start on the 6.30am train from Clapham Junction after 4 hours sleep at Amys flat (Thanks Amy!) we looked something like this...

Our last foot on English soil was unexpectedly on the cold tarmac at Gatwick, as the jetty to the plane wasn't working. A friendly airport man took this photo!
We arrived in Madrid and took the metro to the city centre. We almost turned round and went back after Sam decided her backpack didn't fit her and she wasn't going to be able to carry it! By the time I had finshed wrestling the 100's of different straps to try and adjust it I was red in the face and dripping with sweat.

Against all odds, we made it to the Hostal Bahia. Our room wasn't quite as nice as last time - no balcony - not even a window! It was clean and cheap and I guess it got us used to roughing it in a stuffy room with no air-con...

Sam's Mum and Alan were also in Madrid - we spent a couple of days with them, making sure they paid for everything - we're on a budget you know! We took the Teleferico over the park and then hiked back to the city centre. Loads of pictures of Madrid are
